Quarantined Towns

What happens when Die2Nite runs into a technical difficulty with your Town Town? It becomes Quarantined! Sucks to be you.

Causes

Quoting the info box that crops up at the top right of the page:

YOUR TOWN IS UNDER QUARANTINE! A technical error has occurred (during last night's attack or otherwise) and an administrator is needed to fix it.

Made known by the Die2Nite help section:

The attack has not taken place
Players do not regain their , and their state of health has not changed (Thirsty players remain Thirsty, rather than Dehydrated; Wounded people without infection still don't have infection; etc.)
Yesterday has not been completed, and continues on to today

Other effects:

The gates cannot be opened
- Message given when trying to open the gates (please confirm): It is impossible to open the town gates during a quarantine period!

Once the problem has been resolved:

The quarantine is lifted
The attack will occur the following attack phase as normal
The town gates will be closed automatically before the delayed attack
- Thus, if the gates were left open, everybody can roam around without worry of making sure someone saves 1 to close the gates
- On the other hand, if the gates were left closed, then everybody's stuck; Those outside remain outside, and those inside remain inside
  - Even if the Watchtower is upgraded to the relevant level, you cannot teleport back inside
