Food items provide various means of restoring and are essential to survival.

Water

Drinking water will restore to maximum (usually 6), give the Refreshed Refreshed effect, and remove the Thirsty Thirsty effect. When Dehydrated Dehydrated!, drinking water will change your status to Thirsty Thirsty and not restore any . The Refreshed Refreshed effect prevents you from restoring again from water, and stops you drinking for this purpose. If you become Thirsty Thirsty or Dehydrated Dehydrated! later on you may drink again to remove these effects.

Food

Eating food (and premium and infected foods) restores your to maximum and gives the Fed Fed effect which prevents you from eating again today.

This has a truly bizarre taste, it's difficult to define. It does the job though: fills your stomach. On the other hand, it doesn't give you any extra energy...

Premium Food

Premium Food gives a bonus taking your total beyond its maximum (usually to 7).

Just this once does no harm, you enjoy devouring the Food something... . It makes a change from the usual disgusting slop... it perks you right up. You get a bonus of 1 AP !

Cannibalism!

These items will give you the cannibalism distinction.

• Human Flesh Human Flesh - safe to eat. Is used in the temporary building Baited Trap.

• Meaty Bone Meaty Bone - 50% chance of getting you Infected Infected

Bad news, you maybe shouldn't have swallowed that... you have been infected !

Unprepared Food

Unprepared food must have some action performed to make it edible.

• Can Can - must be opened with a Can Opener Can Opener, Screwdriver Screwdriver, or Hacksaw Hacksaw, or in the Workshop Workshop costing . Becomes an Open Can Open Can
• Dried Marshmallows Dried Marshmallows - needs cooking over a Torch Torch and becomes Burnt Marshmallows Burnt Marshmallows. Heroes can also cook this in a kitchen without a Torch Torch to make it edible.
• Suspicious looking plum juice Suspicious looking plum juice - can be eaten for no effect or cooked by a hero in a Kitchen Kitchen.

Containers

Containers must be opened in some manner and give random food items.

• Doggy Bag Doggy Bag - can be opened without cost or tools to give 1 item.
• Food Parcel Food Parcel - requires tools or workshop? to open and gives 1-2 items.

Alcohol

Alcohol does not count as food nor water. It will restore your to maximum and give you the status Drunk Drunk. The next day you will receive the status Hangover Hungover. Both Drunk and Hungover prevent you from drinking further alcohol.

Coffee

Coffee may be drunk an unlimited number of times for no negative effect and each cup restores 4 toward your maximum. However brewing coffee requires a Cafetière Cafetière which is expensive to repair, and each cup is expensive to brew.
