There is a very special distinction in Die2Nite. One which only goes to the best (or most devious) citizens: Last Man Standing!
This offers an undeniable advantage: it transforms the average citizen into a Hero for one or more days!
However, to earn this distinction, three rules must be satisfied:
- The town must have survived for at least 5 complete days,
- The citizen must have been devoured during the Horde's attack which devastated the town,
- The town can not have been devastated on a previous attack (a town is devastated if a night passes and there are no citizens within the town walls.).
Hence, a citizen who commits suicide, dies from dehydration on the last night or dies in the World Beyond (via camping or not), will not earn this distinction.
If many citizens fufill these rules (i.e., two or more citizens are the last line of defense), then the last survivor is chosen completely at random. The last victim will become the Last Man Standing.
Finally, if the citizen selected is already a Hero, the day or days awarded will be added to the number of Hero days the citizen currently has remaining.
Formula for days awarded:
- Dead during day 5 (between 0h to 23h59) or before = no award
- Dead during the night between day 5 and 6 = 1 hero day + distinction
- Dead during the night between day 6 and 7 = 2 hero days + distinction
- Dead during the night between day 7 and 8 = 3 hero days + distinction
- Dead during the night between day 8 and 9 = 4 hero days + distinction
- Dead during the night between day 9 and 10 = 5 hero days + distinction
- Dead during the night between day 10 and 15 = 6 hero days + distinction
- Dead during the night between day 15 and 20 = 7 hero days + distinction
- Dead during the night between day 20 and 21 or thereafter = 10 hero days + distinction
