Generally, it's a bad idea to use the water purifying tablets - a 
Full Jerrycan will yield many more rations if you purify it using the Water Purifier, a building that can be constructed after the 
Pump has been completed. However, the tablets do give you the rations directly, rather than adding them to the Town's Well.
Blurb
When added to water, these disinfectant capsules make water safe to drink. These were previously used for cleaning toilets. You start to imagine how the water is going to taste afterwards... (NOTE: The yield of this product is much lower than that of the Industrial Purifier).
